Shawn will share his knowledge on how to find great mentors, how to make the most out of every mentoring conversation, and how to take your skills and confidence from here to there in 90 days.

Our online course includes six sessions:

1 Foundations

This is an introduction to mentoring and the various types of mentors. It also offers clarity into the attributes and experiences that define your ideal mentor and introduces the concept of setting mentoring goals. It is the foundation you need to achieve the differentiating edge to accomplish your goals.

2 Finding Mentors

A successful mentoring relationship starts with finding your ideal mentor. This session explains how to find a mentor through MentorCity or elsewhere, offers tips on inviting someone to an initial mentoring conversation, and gives advice on following up if you don’t receive a response to your mentoring request.

3 First Meeting

The first meeting with your mentor is crucial to setting the tone for your mentoring relationship. This session outlines what to do during your first meeting with a potential mentor, including tips on building rapport, questions to ask to break the ice, determining if the mentoring relationship is a good fit, and integrating the lessons learned into your everyday life.

4 Mentoring Meetings

Discover the winning formula for keeping mentoring meetings structured, productive and always moving forward. This session expands your mentoring toolkit by introducing many activities that you can do throughout your mentoring relationship to ensure that you get the best possible results.

5 Mentee Skills

The mentee’s role in the relationship is just as important as the mentor’s. Where the mentor offers guidance, motivation and support, the mentee identifies the skills and competencies they wish to gain and demonstrates that, over time, they are learning from the relationship. This session helps you learn the skills you need to keep your mentoring relationships on track with a fun mentee quiz to discover your strengths as well as the areas that need improvement.

6 Mentor Skills

It is easier to become a mentor once you have had experience as a mentee. This session includes a quiz to help you evaluate your mentor while also determining the strengths and necessary skills you need to become an effective mentor.

There is also a series of bonus challenges that will help you to develop your skills.

Here’s what some people have to say about Shawn’s other MentorCity initiatives:

"I came away with further inspiration on what it means to be a mentor and how to find one as well. I also discovered that I need to answer a lot of internal questions about myself and my goals … so I look forward to signing on to mentorcity.com as I believe this tool will help guide me in the right direction."

~ Julie, participant, HACE (Heritage, Arts, Culture & Entertainment collective)
